Waaree Energies to Build India’s Largest 10 GW Integrated Ingot & Wafer Manufacturing Facility in Nagpur

Waaree Energies Limited, India’s leading solar module manufacturer, has announced plans to establish the country’s largest integrated ingot and wafer production facility in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The greenfield project will have a capacity of 10 gigawatts (GW) per year and represents a major step toward building a fully domestic upstream solar supply chain.

The facility will produce high-efficiency monocrystalline silicon ingots and wafers, the foundational materials used in solar cell and module manufacturing. By integrating ingot pulling, wafer slicing, and related processes under one roof, Waaree aims to reduce dependence on imported wafers (currently over 80% of India’s requirement comes from abroad) and achieve better cost control, quality consistency, and supply security for its downstream operations.

The project is expected to be developed in phases, with the first 5 GW expected to come on stream within 24–30 months. The total investment is estimated to be in the range of ₹8,000–10,000 crore, including land, plant & machinery, utilities, and working capital. The facility will be located in the MIHAN-SEZ area of Nagpur, benefiting from good connectivity, power availability, and proximity to skilled labour in the Vidarbha region.

Waaree Energies Chairman and Managing Director Hitesh Doshi said the facility will significantly strengthen India’s solar manufacturing ecosystem and support the government’s target of 500 GW renewable energy capacity by 2030. He added that backward integration into ingot and wafer production will help the company lower module costs, improve competitiveness in domestic and export markets, and create thousands of direct and indirect jobs in Maharashtra.

The announcement aligns with the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for solar PV modules and the broader push under the National Green Hydrogen Mission and Atmanirbhar Bharat to develop a complete domestic solar value chain from polysilicon to modules.
