Tata Electronics and ASML have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support the development of India’s semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi witnessed the signing during his visit to the Netherlands. The partnership will help set up and operate Tata Electronics’ upcoming 300 mm semiconductor fabrication plant in Dholera, Gujarat.
Under the agreement, ASML will supply its advanced lithography tools and solutions for the Dholera fab. The two companies will also work together on talent development, supply chain strengthening, and research initiatives to support long-term success of the project.
Dr. Randhir Thakur, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Electronics, said the partnership with ASML will ensure timely ramp-up of the fab. He added that it will help build a strong semiconductor ecosystem in India through quality, innovation, and local talent development.
Christophe Fouquet, President and CEO of ASML, stated that the MoU marks an important milestone. He noted that Tata Electronics is well positioned to expand semiconductor capabilities in India, and ASML is pleased to contribute its expertise.
Tata Electronics is developing India’s first commercial 300 mm semiconductor fab in Dholera with a planned investment of around US$11 billion. The facility will produce chips for automotive, mobile devices, artificial intelligence, and other sectors. Construction is progressing rapidly.
This collaboration forms a key part of India’s efforts to build a self-reliant semiconductor industry. It will support technology transfer, skill development, and creation of a robust local supply chain. ASML is a global leader in lithography equipment, which is critical for advanced chip manufacturing. The partnership strengthens ties between India and the Netherlands in critical technologies.
