Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a key meeting with senior executives of Honda Motor Co., Ltd. in Tokyo today to deepen the long-standing industrial partnership between the Japanese automaker and the state.
During the discussions, Mr. Noriya Kaihara, Director, Executive Vice President, and Representative Executive Officer of Honda Motor Co., Ltd., reaffirmed the company’s strong commitment to Uttar Pradesh. He highlighted that 30 per cent of Honda’s total investments in India are already in the state and shared details about the company’s expanding presence across the country. Kaihara also emphasised Honda’s global focus on electric vehicles (EVs), hybrids, and clean mobility technologies as part of its future strategy.
The talks explored opportunities to set up a research and development (R&D) facility in Uttar Pradesh dedicated to next-generation mobility solutions. This could help bring advanced innovation and technology closer to the Indian market.
Chief Minister Adityanath invited Honda to reconsider restarting operations at its Greater Noida plant, with a special emphasis on producing EVs and hybrid vehicles. He assured the delegation of complete support from the Government of Uttar Pradesh, including smooth facilitation processes, land allocation where needed, and infrastructure assistance to enable expansion and new investments.
The meeting is part of CM Adityanath’s ongoing efforts during his Japan visit to attract high-value investments and strengthen ties with global companies in sectors like automobiles, clean energy, and manufacturing. Uttar Pradesh has emerged as a major hub for auto components and vehicle production, and partnerships like this are seen as vital for job creation, technology transfer, and economic growth.
Honda has maintained a significant manufacturing footprint in India for decades, with plants contributing to both domestic sales and exports. Reviving or expanding facilities in Uttar Pradesh could align with the state’s push toward sustainable mobility and India’s broader EV adoption goals.
The discussions reflect growing India-Japan collaboration in the automotive sector, especially in emerging technologies that support cleaner transportation.
