Ola Electric has received government certification for its S1 X+ electric scooter powered by indigenous 4680 Bharat Cells with a 5.2 kWh battery pack.
The certification from the relevant authorities clears the model for sale across India. It marks a key step in the company’s plan to use locally developed large-format battery cells in its products.
The S1 X+ features a 5.2 kWh battery made with 4680 Bharat Cells. These cells offer higher energy density and better performance compared to smaller cells. The scooter is expected to deliver good range and faster charging while supporting local manufacturing.
Bhavish Aggarwal, Founder and CEO of Ola Electric, said the certification is an important milestone. He added that the use of 4680 Bharat Cells strengthens the company’s focus on building advanced and affordable electric vehicles in India.
The model includes standard safety and performance features required for two-wheelers. It forms part of Ola Electric’s S1 series, which targets customers looking for practical and efficient daily commute options.
Ola Electric aims to increase the use of made-in-India battery cells in its lineup. The 4680 cell format is known for its large size and improved thermal management, which can lead to longer battery life and better efficiency.
This development comes as India pushes for greater self-reliance in electric vehicle components, especially batteries. Ola Electric is one of the leading two-wheeler electric vehicle makers in the country. The company operates a large manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu and continues to invest in battery technology and local supply chains to reduce dependence on imports. The certification of the S1 X+ strengthens its product range in the growing electric scooter market.
