DRDO, Indian Air Force Successfully Test-Fire Indigenous TARA Weapon Off Odisha Coast

Significant step towards defence modernisation: Successful test-firing of indigenous TARA by DRDO and Indian Air Force .

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Air Force have successfully test-fired the indigenous Tactical Advanced Range Augmentation (TARA) weapon from the Integrated Test Range off the Odisha coast.

The test took place on Friday. Officials described the trial as successful and said all mission objectives were met.

TARA is a precision-guided glide bomb system designed to increase the range of conventional munitions. It allows fighter aircraft to strike targets from a safer distance while maintaining high accuracy. The weapon uses advanced wing technology and guidance systems developed in India.

A senior DRDO official said the test validates the weapon’s performance under realistic conditions. He added that TARA will significantly enhance the Indian Air Force’s standoff strike capability.

The weapon was released from an Indian Air Force fighter aircraft. It demonstrated stable flight, accurate guidance, and successful engagement with the target. Defence sources confirmed that telemetry and tracking systems recorded good results throughout the flight.

TARA forms part of India’s efforts to develop advanced indigenous munitions. It reduces reliance on imported systems and strengthens the country’s tactical air power.

The successful test marks another step in DRDO’s work on precision-guided weapons. The Indian defence industry continues to focus on self-reliance through projects like this. TARA is expected to add to the Indian Air Force’s arsenal of long-range strike options and support future operational needs.
