Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given in-principle approval for the development of an 80.4 km long four-lane highway corridor between Badnawar and Timarwani in Madhya Pradesh under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
The project covers the stretch from Badnawar to Petlawad, Petlawad to Thandla, and Thandla to Timarwani on NH-752D. It will be developed in Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Transfer (DBFOT) Toll mode on a hybrid annuity basis. The estimated cost of the project is approximately ₹2,800 crore, with construction expected to be completed within three years from the appointed date.
Once completed, the four-laning will significantly improve connectivity between Indore, Jhabua, and the Gujarat border region, reduce travel time, enhance road safety, and facilitate smoother movement of goods and passengers. The corridor forms part of an important regional network linking central Madhya Pradesh with western India and supports better access to industrial clusters, agricultural markets, and tourist destinations in the Malwa-Nimar belt.
The decision is expected to generate substantial direct and indirect employment during construction and operation phases while boosting economic activity in the districts of Dhar, Jhabua, and Alirajpur. Improved highway infrastructure will also help decongest existing single-lane and intermediate-lane sections that currently face heavy traffic pressure.
This approval is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen and modernise the national highway network under the Bharatmala Pariyojana and other flagship road development programmes, with special focus on high-priority corridors in central and western India.
