Afcons Infrastructure Ltd has emerged as the successful bidder for a large railway rehabilitation and construction project in Croatia, Europe.
The project is valued at €677.07 million (approximately ₹7,544 crore), excluding taxes. It represents Afcons’ largest international order to date and its first major entry into the European market.
The scope includes reconstruction of the existing railway track and construction of a second track on the Dugo Selo–Novska section. The work also covers overhead electrification, signalling, and telecommunication systems. The upgraded line will support train speeds of up to 160 km per hour. The project is expected to take 72 months to complete.
Krishnamurthy Subramanian, Executive Chairman of Afcons Infrastructure, said the project marks a significant step in the company’s global journey. He added that it reflects Afcons’ ability to deliver complex, large-scale infrastructure solutions across different countries.
The contract was awarded by HŽ Infrastruktura, Croatia’s railway infrastructure company. The project forms part of Croatia’s broader rail modernisation programme and receives support from European Union funds.
Afcons Infrastructure, part of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group, is a leading Indian engineering and construction company. It has executed many complex projects in India and abroad in sectors such as metros, railways, highways, bridges, and marine works.
This success in Europe highlights the growing global presence of Indian infrastructure companies. It also demonstrates their ability to compete with international firms on large, technically demanding projects.
