Ashok Leyland, the Hinduja Group flagship and one of India’s leading commercial vehicle makers, today inaugurated its new state-of-the-art electric vehicle manufacturing facility in Lucknow, marking a major milestone in the company’s green mobility roadmap and Uttar Pradesh’s industrial growth.
The ceremony, held at the Sarojini Nagar Extension-1 industrial area on Kanpur Road, was graced by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, and Union Minister for Heavy Industries H.D. Kumaraswamy.
This dedicated EV plant, built with an investment of around Rs 1,000 crore, is focused on producing electric buses with an initial annual capacity of 2,500 units, expandable to 5,000 in the next phase. It is North India’s first such facility and positions Uttar Pradesh as an emerging hub for clean mobility manufacturing.
The integrated chassis and bus-making unit will roll out zero-emission vehicles for intra-city and inter-city use, supporting sustainable public transport and reducing carbon footprints across the country.
The project aligns with the state’s ambition to reach a $1 trillion economy, creating skilled jobs and attracting further investments in the EV ecosystem.
