Japan’s Hirose Electric to Invest ₹100 Crore in Tamil Nadu for New Manufacturing Unit

Japanese electronics component giant Hirose Electric Co., Ltd. has announced plans to establish its first manufacturing facility in India with an investment of ₹100 crore. The new plant will come up in Tamil Nadu and focus on producing high-precision connectors used in automotive, industrial, and consumer electronics applications.

The announcement was made following a meeting between Tamil Nadu Industries Minister TRB Rajaa and senior executives from Hirose Electric in Chennai. The company has selected the state for its strong industrial ecosystem, skilled workforce, and supportive policies under the Tamil Nadu Electronics Hardware Manufacturing Policy and the Global Capability Centres scheme.

The facility is expected to begin operations by mid-2027 and will initially create around 300–400 direct jobs, with potential for further expansion in phases. Hirose Electric, a global leader in miniature and high-reliability connectors, supplies components to major automobile manufacturers, medical device makers, and telecom equipment companies worldwide. Local production in India will help reduce lead times, lower logistics costs, and better serve the growing domestic and export markets from the region.

Minister TRB Rajaa welcomed the investment, saying it reflects Tamil Nadu’s position as a preferred destination for high-technology manufacturing and electronics. He assured the company of full support from the state government, including single-window clearances, infrastructure facilitation, and skill development initiatives.

Hirose Electric’s entry adds to the growing list of Japanese firms investing in Tamil Nadu’s electronics and automotive sectors. The state already hosts several Japanese companies in Chennai, Sriperumbudur, and Oragadam industrial corridors.

The project aligns with India’s broader push to attract global electronics manufacturers under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for electronics and semiconductors, aiming to build a robust domestic supply chain for critical components.
