Indonesia Places Mega Order for Over 1 Lakh Vehicles from Mahindra and Tata in Major Export Boost for India

Indonesian state-owned enterprise Agrinas Pangan Nusantara has awarded large-scale vehicle supply contracts to two leading Indian manufacturers, Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Motors, as part of efforts to modernise rural logistics and support national food security goals.

Mahindra & Mahindra secured its largest-ever export order, committing to deliver 35,000 Scorpio Pik Up light commercial vehicles to Agrinas in 2026. These durable pick-up trucks will support first-mile aggregation, helping move fresh produce from farms to cooperatives and markets under Indonesia’s Koperasi Desa/Kelurahan Merah Putih (KDKMP) project. The order, larger than Mahindra’s total exports in the previous financial year, will be fulfilled from its Nashik facility in Maharashtra.

In a separate deal, Tata Motors, through its subsidiary PT Tata Motors Distribusi Indonesia, agreed to supply 70,000 commercial vehicles to Agrinas. The contract includes 35,000 Yodha pick-up trucks and 35,000 Ultra T.7 light trucks, designed for rugged rural and agricultural use. This marks Tata Motors’ biggest single order in Southeast Asia and aligns with the same government-backed initiative to strengthen supply chains for rural cooperatives.

Together, these agreements involve over 105,000 vehicles, highlighting growing confidence in Indian-made commercial vehicles for demanding applications in emerging markets. The vehicles are expected to improve transportation efficiency, reduce costs for farmers, and enhance food distribution across Indonesia’s vast archipelago.

Mahindra officials described the deal as a milestone that showcases the global appeal of “Made in India” products. Tata Motors emphasised how the Yodha and Ultra models suit Indonesia’s terrain and high-utilisation needs. Both companies will handle local distribution through their established networks in the country.

The orders come amid Indonesia’s broader push to upgrade rural infrastructure and agricultural logistics. Agrinas, focused on empowering cooperatives and advancing food security, selected these vehicles for their reliability, payload capacity, and cost-effectiveness.

Indian government and industry leaders welcomed the development as a boost for exports and proof of the country’s manufacturing strength in the commercial vehicle segment. These deals are seen as opening doors for further opportunities in Southeast Asia.

As deliveries ramp up in 2026, the partnerships could strengthen India-Indonesia economic ties and demonstrate the competitiveness of Indian automakers on the global stage.
