World’s largest car and truck carrier vessel, Höegh Aurora, has docked at Mumbai Port for the first time.
The massive Ro-Ro vessel arrived at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust’s dedicated car terminal. It is capable of carrying more than 9,000 vehicles in a single voyage.
Höegh Aurora measures 240 metres in length and has 14 decks. The vessel uses advanced environmentally friendly technology, including hybrid propulsion systems that reduce fuel consumption and emissions.
A senior official from Mumbai Port said the arrival of such a large vessel shows the growing importance of the port for India’s automobile trade. The official added that the terminal handled the vessel smoothly and efficiently.
Höegh Autoliners, the Norwegian shipping company that owns the vessel, described the ship as a game-changer for global vehicle logistics. A company representative noted that the Aurora sets new standards for capacity, safety, and sustainability in the car carrier industry.
The vessel can transport a mix of passenger cars, SUVs, trucks, and heavy equipment. It features strengthened decks and modern loading systems for faster and safer operations.
This development highlights the steady rise in India’s automobile exports and imports. Mumbai Port is one of the key gateways for vehicle trade in the country. The arrival of the world’s largest Ro-Ro vessel strengthens India’s position in global vehicle logistics and supports the growing auto manufacturing sector. Höegh Aurora is part of a new generation of ultra-large car carriers designed to meet increasing demand from major automakers worldwide.
