Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies has signed a memorandum of understanding with US-based Nuvation Energy to explore the manufacture of high-voltage battery management systems in India.
The agreement was signed at the 12th India Energy Storage Week in New Delhi. The two companies will work together to localise and scale production of these systems for the Indian market.
The partnership will initially target battery management systems for grid-scale energy storage, commercial and industrial applications, and renewable energy projects. It combines Nuvation Energy’s high-voltage technology with Amara Raja’s manufacturing strengths.
Dr Vikash Venkataramana, Chief Product Officer at Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies, said: “Battery Management Systems are among the most technologically demanding components in the energy storage value chain, especially as grid-scale storage systems are growing in size and complexity. Our partnership with Nuvation Energy gives us access to proven, globally validated technology that we aim to localise and scale for Indian conditions, supporting the country’s clean energy transition.”

Battery management systems monitor and protect lithium-ion battery packs. They ensure safe operation, optimise performance and extend battery life in large installations. The collaboration focuses on Nuvation’s 1,500-volt technology platform.
Amara Raja is expanding its lithium-ion operations with a Rs 9,500 crore investment in a 16 gigawatt-hour gigafactory in Telangana. A 10 gigawatt-hour battery energy storage system facility is also under development and expected to start operations later this year.
The move supports India’s push to build a domestic energy storage supply chain. It aligns with the country’s goals to integrate more renewable energy and reduce dependence on imported components for battery systems.
