India Offers $500 Billion Energy Investment Opportunity, Including $100 Billion for Exploration

Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri has said that India’s energy sector represents a massive investment opportunity of around $500 billion, with $100 billion specifically targeted for exploration and production activities.

Speaking at India Energy Week 2026, the minister emphasised that the country is attracting strong interest from global energy players. He noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had clearly outlined this potential during the event’s inaugural address, describing India’s economic trajectory as offering significant scope across the entire energy value chain.

Puri pointed out that recent high-level meetings with 27 top CEOs from India and abroad reflected very positive sentiments. He quoted one CEO as saying they had already invested $5 billion and planned to invest more, underscoring India’s central role in global energy discussions on consumption, transition, sustainability, and overall ecosystem development.

The minister highlighted that India is positioning itself as a key destination for energy investments through ongoing reforms and policy support. This includes opening up exploration areas, improving data access, and offering fiscal incentives to boost domestic production and reduce import dependence.

India Energy Week 2026 served as a key platform for these conversations, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, and investors to discuss ways to advance secure, affordable, and sustainable energy for the future.
