Reliance Industries Partners in $300 Billion Deal to Build New US Oil Refinery

President Donald Trump on Tuesday hailed a major new energy project, saying it will bring the first oil refinery built in the United States in nearly five decades to Brownsville, Texas. He described the initiative as a “historic $300 billion dollar deal” and thanked India’s Reliance Industries for its “tremendous investment.”

In a post on Truth Social, President Trump wrote: “America is returning to REAL ENERGY DOMINANCE! Today I am proud to announce that America First Refining is opening the FIRST new U.S. Oil Refinery in 50 YEARS in Brownsville, Texas. THIS IS A HISTORIC $300 BILLION DOLLAR DEAL — THE BIGGEST IN U.S. HISTORY, A MASSIVE WIN for American Workers, Energy, and the GREAT People of South Texas! Thank you to our partners in India, and their largest privately held Energy Company, Reliance, for this tremendous Investment.”

The project is being led by America First Refining at the Port of Brownsville along the U.S.-Mexico border. According to the company, the facility will process American shale oil to produce cleaner fuels such as ultra-low sulfur diesel and jet fuel. It aims to cut U.S. crude exports, create hundreds of direct jobs and thousands of indirect ones, and strengthen energy security for the country.

Company officials have said the refinery is already in Phase 1 of construction and will use modern technology powered by on-site hydrogen to keep carbon emissions low. They also noted it will help offset a large part of the U.S. trade deficit through domestic refining.

President Trump called the refinery “THE CLEANEST REFINERY IN THE WORLD” and said it would fuel American markets, boost national security, and deliver billions of dollars in economic impact.

This marks a significant step under the “America First” energy agenda, which focuses on increasing domestic production and reducing reliance on foreign oil. No new major refinery has been built in the U.S. since the 1970s, making this development noteworthy for the industry.

Details on the exact investment breakdown from Reliance are still emerging, but the president’s announcement positions the partnership as a win for both American workers and international cooperation in energy.
