India’s space agency, ISRO, is reaching for the stars with some big new goals! The chairman of ISRO, V. Narayanan, has shared that the government has given the green light for the Chandrayaan-4 mission, which will try to bring back pieces of the Moon to Earth. This super-tricky mission is planned for launch in 2028.
Chandrayaan-4 will be India’s toughest Moon trip yet. It aims to collect lunar samples and return them safely something only the United States, Russia, and China have done before. If it works, India will join this special club of countries! The mission will help scientists learn more about the Moon’s rocks and what they can tell us about space.
That’s not all. ISRO has also started building India’s very own space station, called the Bharatiya Antariksha Station. It will have five parts, and the first one will go into orbit by 2028. The whole station should be ready and working by 2035. This will be a place where Indian astronauts can live and do experiments in space for longer times.
Mr. Narayanan shared these updates in a recent interview. He said ISRO is super busy right now, with seven more rocket launches planned before the end of this financial year. India’s first mission to send people to space, called Gaganyaan, is still on track for 2027. And looking even further ahead, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants Indian astronauts to walk on the Moon and come back safely by 2040.
ISRO is also working hard to make more spacecraft faster they plan to triple how many they build each year. This will help India grow its share in the world’s space business from about 2% now to 8% by 2030.
These plans show how India is becoming a big player in space exploration. From landing on the Moon’s south pole with Chandrayaan-3 to now planning to bring Moon rocks home and build a space station it’s an exciting time for Indian space fans!
