Indian Army Secures Intellectual Property Rights for Advanced Digital-Print Combat Coat Featuring Three-Layer Technical Textile Design

Our Indian Army just got full ownership of a brand-new, high-tech combat coat that’s smarter, comfier, and tougher than ever! The Army has officially secured the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) for this “New Coat Combat” a cool three-layer jacket made with the latest fabrics. Now, no one else can copy the design or the special camouflage pattern without permission!

This awesome jacket was created by experts at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Delhi. They worked closely with the Army Design Bureau on this project. The coat was first shown off in January 2025, right after the Army launched its new digital-print uniform. It’s built to keep soldiers safe and feeling good no matter where they are from freezing mountains to hot deserts.

  • Outer Layer: A tough, digitally printed camouflage coat that hides soldiers better in all kinds of terrain and lasts longer in rough conditions.
  • Inner Jacket: A light, warm middle layer that lets you move freely without getting too hot or cold.
  • Thermal Layer: The base layer that wicks away sweat and keeps body temperature just right, even in extreme weather.

All these layers use advanced “technical textiles” fancy materials that are breathable, quick-drying, and super strong. The design is ergonomic, meaning it’s shaped perfectly for the body so soldiers can run, climb, and fight without any hassle.

By grabbing the IPR, the Army makes sure this Indian-made innovation stays protected. It was registered with the patent office in Kolkata earlier this year (application from February 2025). This stops fake copies and fits perfectly with “Atmanirbhar Bharat” making India self-reliant in defence gear.

Army officials say this is a big win for soldier comfort and our country’s push to innovate in military tech. It’s part of the Army’s big transformation plan till 2032.
