India and Fiji have agreed to extend their bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on agriculture cooperation for another five years, while also setting up a Joint Working Group (JWG) to deepen ties in the sector, the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare announced today.
The decision came during a bilateral meeting between Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Fiji’s Minister for Agriculture and Waterways Tomasi Tunabuna at Krishi Bhawan in New Delhi. Discussions focused on sharing technology, training programs, research collaboration, and strengthening food security in both nations.
The extended MoU will provide a stronger framework for exchanging expertise in areas like dairy development, rice cultivation, root crops, water management, and pest control. The JWG will meet regularly to plan and monitor joint initiatives, ensuring practical outcomes for farmers and agricultural growth.
This step builds on the existing partnership, which dates back to a 2021 MoU, and reflects growing ties between the two countries in agriculture and allied fields amid shared goals of sustainable farming and food resilience.
