Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Kalyani Strategic Systems Sign MoU for Indigenous Naval and Unmanned Maritime Technologies

Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE), a leading defence shipyard under the Ministry of Defence, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited (KSSL), a subsidiary of Bharat Forge, to jointly develop and promote indigenous solutions for advanced naval systems and unmanned maritime platforms.

The agreement, signed on March 5, 2026, focuses on creating homegrown technologies for both domestic and global markets. The partnership will cover a wide range of maritime and defence systems, including ship propulsion and mechanical systems for naval and commercial vessels, integrated platform management systems, steering and stabilizer assemblies, deck equipment, and unmanned platforms such as Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs) and Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs).

This collaboration combines GRSE’s expertise in shipbuilding and maritime engineering with KSSL’s strengths in designing and manufacturing advanced defence platforms. It aims to support India’s vision of Atmanirbharta (self-reliance) in defence by promoting indigenisation, technological collaboration, and enhanced capabilities in strategic maritime systems.

The MoU reflects growing efforts to strengthen India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem, reduce dependence on imports, and position Indian companies as competitive players in the global defence and maritime technology market.

Officials from both companies described the partnership as a significant step toward delivering innovative, reliable solutions that meet modern naval requirements while boosting economic and technological growth in the sector.
