Adani Power Limited has won a major 1,600 MW long-term power supply contract through competitive bidding conducted by Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), one of India’s largest power distribution utilities.
The agreement, for a period of 25 years, will supply electricity from Adani Power’s thermal power plants to meet Maharashtra’s growing energy demand, particularly during peak hours. The contract was awarded under the recent tariff-based competitive bidding process floated by MSEDCL for long-term procurement of power from thermal sources.
This is one of the largest single power purchase agreements signed by a private generator with Maharashtra in recent years. The power allocation will help the discom strengthen its supply position, reduce dependence on short-term purchases, and ensure more stable and affordable electricity for millions of consumers across the state.
Adani Power stated that the contract reinforces its position as a reliable long-term power supplier and supports the company’s strategy of securing long-duration, high-volume power purchase agreements (PPAs) with state utilities. The company already has several large PPAs with various discoms across India and continues to expand its presence in key markets.
Maharashtra, with its massive industrial base, rapid urbanisation, and increasing electrification, requires substantial additional power capacity in the coming years. This agreement will contribute to bridging part of that gap while promoting efficient utilisation of existing thermal generation assets.
The deal is expected to generate stable revenue visibility for Adani Power over the next two and a half decades and further strengthen its financial profile.
