Amazon Expands Dedicated Air Cargo Network to Northeast India for Faster Deliveries

Amazon has extended its in-house air cargo service, Amazon Air, to India’s Northeast region with new dedicated routes connecting Kolkata and Guwahati. The expansion aims to dramatically improve delivery speeds and reliability for customers across the seven sister states Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura.

The new routes integrate the Northeast more closely with Amazon’s national logistics network, combining air freight with surface transportation. Amazon Air will operate three flights per week on the Delhi–Kolkata–Guwahati corridor, with plans to increase frequency to six flights weekly.

This dedicated capacity is expected to reduce transit times by up to five times compared to previous road and rail-dependent routes, bringing faster access to a wide range of products including everyday essentials, electronics, fashion, and beauty items.

The inaugural Delhi–Guwahati cargo flight was flagged off by Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu from Indira Gandhi International Airport. Amazon said the move will also benefit local sellers and entrepreneurs in the Northeast by enabling them to reach customers across India much quicker through the same efficient network.

Amazon Air, launched in India in 2023 with two narrow-body freighter aircraft, now connects more than 100 origin-destination pairs across the country. The addition of Northeast routes addresses long-standing logistics challenges in the region due to its terrain and limited connectivity, helping make e-commerce more inclusive and reliable for millions of customers and sellers.
