India and Israel have signed a Joint Declaration to enhance bilateral cooperation in fisheries and aquaculture, aiming to boost sustainable fish production, technology transfer, and farmer livelihoods in both countries.
The agreement was signed by Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Rajiv Ranjan Singh and Israeli Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Avi Dichter during a high-level meeting in New Delhi. The declaration focuses on joint research, capacity building, exchange of expertise, and promotion of advanced aquaculture techniques such as recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), biofloc technology, and precision fish farming.
Both sides emphasised the importance of sustainable practices to address food security challenges, improve productivity, and adapt to climate change impacts. The partnership will also explore opportunities for Israeli technology and investment in India’s growing fisheries sector, which already contributes significantly to the national economy and employs millions.
The Joint Declaration builds on existing ties and opens the door for more structured collaboration, including joint projects, training programmes for Indian fish farmers, and knowledge-sharing workshops.
This step is expected to benefit small-scale fishers and entrepreneurs in India while strengthening the strategic partnership between the two nations in agriculture and allied sectors.
