The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched ‘Udai’ (उदय), a friendly new mascot for Aadhaar, aimed at making information about the country’s digital identity system more relatable and easier to understand for the public.
Udai was unveiled by UIDAI Chairman Neelkanth Mishra at an event in Thiruvananthapuram. The mascot, selected through a national competition on MyGov, is designed to act as a “resident-facing communication companion” that explains Aadhaar processes in a simple, people-friendly way.
The character will help clarify key services like Aadhaar updates, authentication, offline verification, and responsible usage. “The Aadhaar mascot named Udai (उदय) will be helpful in making Aadhaar-related information more relatable and people-friendly,” UIDAI stated, adding that it will build greater trust and connection with citizens.
The design contest saw winners from across India, including a young artist from Thrissur who created the final version. Udai is expected to feature in campaigns, videos, and materials to reach diverse audiences, especially in rural and regional languages.
This initiative marks a creative step by UIDAI to humanise India’s largest digital identity programme, which now covers over 1.4 billion residents, ensuring services feel approachable and accessible.
