Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has unveiled two new amphibious armoured platforms one tracked and one wheeled fitted with indigenous crewless turrets and anti-tank missile systems.
DRDO’s Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (VRDE) developed the platforms in collaboration with Tata Advanced Systems Limited and Bharat Forge Limited. DRDO Chairman Samir V. Kamat formally unveiled the vehicles today.
Both platforms feature an indigenous 30 mm crewless turret. The turret includes a 7.62 mm PKT coaxial gun and can launch anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs). This setup allows remote operation, which reduces risk to the crew while maintaining strong firepower.
The platforms offer improved amphibious capability through hydro jets that help them cross water obstacles more easily. They also provide modular blast and ballistic protection that meets STANAG Level 5 standards. The base design supports multiple roles, including troop transport and combat support.
The vehicles currently have about 65 percent indigenous content. Plans are in place to raise this level to 90 percent in future versions.
A senior DRDO official said the platforms combine high mobility, firepower, and protection to meet the Indian Army’s future requirements across different terrains.
These Advanced Armoured Platforms serve as technology demonstrators for next-generation infantry combat vehicles. They support DRDO’s efforts to develop modern, made-in-India systems for the armed forces.
The armoured vehicle sector in India continues to advance with greater focus on self-reliance. DRDO and Indian industry partners are working together to build platforms that match global standards while reducing dependence on foreign technology. This latest development adds to ongoing projects aimed at modernising the Army’s ground forces with indigenous solutions.
