Akasa Air to Set Up Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul Facility at Noida International Airport

Akasa Air has signed an agreement to set up its first dedicated Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility at Noida International Airport (Jewar), Uttar Pradesh. The move will enable the airline to perform line maintenance, base maintenance, and component repair work in-house, supporting its growing fleet and future expansion plans.

The facility is expected to be operational by late 2027 or early 2028 and will initially focus on maintaining Akasa’s fleet of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. It will include hangar space for two to three aircraft, workshops, component shops, and engineering offices. The airline aims to gradually increase in-house capabilities to reduce turnaround times, lower maintenance costs, and improve aircraft availability.

Akasa Air currently operates a fleet of over 25 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and has orders for more than 150 additional planes. Establishing its own MRO will help the airline meet the rising maintenance demand as it scales operations across domestic and future international routes.

The agreement was signed with the Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), the operator of Noida International Airport, during a ceremony attended by senior officials from both sides. The airport authority welcomed the partnership, noting that the MRO facility will create hundreds of skilled jobs, attract ancillary aviation businesses, and strengthen Jewar’s position as a major aviation hub in North India.

Akasa Air CEO Vinay Dube said the MRO investment reflects the airline’s long-term commitment to operational excellence and cost discipline. He added that local maintenance capability will enhance safety, reliability, and on-time performance for passengers.

The development aligns with the government’s push to build a robust domestic MRO ecosystem under the UDAN and aviation infrastructure expansion initiatives. Noida International Airport, set to begin commercial operations in phases from 2025, is positioning itself as a key gateway for cargo, low-cost carriers, and ancillary aviation services.
